Student of the Week – Donna Green

Admin General, Student of the Week 1 Comment

Name: Donna Green

Town you Live In:  Sandown, NH

How long have you been dancing?  6 years off and on

How did you get into ballroom?  Sheer determination. Arthur and I made four attempts to learn to dance over 30 years before we stuck to lessons.

Which dance do you enjoy the most?  Waltz for the grace of the motion and the thrilling but elusive moments of “breathing.”

What is your favorite dance memory?  My aunt married a man with advanced scoliosis. In less enlightened times, he would have been called a hunchback. He was not blessed with a comely face or a sweet disposition; nevertheless, my aunt was fiercely possessive of him because, she said, he was a wonderful dancer. Dance is transformative.

What dance goal would you like to conquer next? To get through four consecutive figures in a lesson with Ray. But seriously, improving my technique and ability to follow, then learning V.Waltz.

What are your other hobbies? Trying to establish a woodland garden despite porcupines, ground hogs, deer, and pine trees that poison groundcover out of spite. A proud Sandown LION.

Something studio friends don’t know : I peaked in 2014. Last year my blog won a NH Press Association award and I was awarded “Sandown Citizen of the Year.”

  1. Fascinating, delightful story. I especially like your persistence in pursuing your interest in ballroom dance. After repeated attempts to conquer the dance over many years you have at last succeeded. It is always a pleasure to see you an Arthur enjoy the challenges and rewards of your efforts to take on new experiences in the studio dance classes and, the really intense, boot camp sessions. Congratulations.
